Ayush Paper A5 Notepad from Federalist Pens and Paper

Ayush Paper was founded in 2012 with the mission “To provide one stop solution for all your paper and art supply need” and to “Supply sketch books, watercolor books, acrylic, etc book in various sizes to fit into each and every budget.” I have seen a few friends and pen/paper reviewers posting about this brand over the past few months and recently started following them myself on Instagram, @ayushpaper24. Frank over at Federalist Pens and Paper, graciously sent me one of their A5 spiral top notepads to try out and review. Thank you, Frank, and if you are interested in getting one of these, or a different size for yourself, check out Federalist Pens and Paper.

The A5 spiral top notepad has 50 pages or 100 sides of 100gsm paper. The pages are perforated at the top allowing each page to be cleanly removed if desired. On the front cover, it is printed “Your fountain pen will love this paper,” and this really appears to be true. The back cover lists the properties of the paper, such as no feathering, no bleeding, minimal show through, shows sheen (more on this below), and moderate drying time. I tried the following variety of writing instruments:

Pencil- Blackwing Palomino 344

Ballpoint- Ensso Aria

Sharpie- Fine point

Fountain pens: Visconti HS-EF with Papier Plume Street Car Green, Montblanc 145-F with Montblanc Toffee Brown, Montblanc Starwalker-M with Montblanc Shakespeare Velvet Red, OPUS 88 Bela-B with Pilot Blue/Black, Twsbi Eco-1.1 stub with Papier Plume No13, and lastly an OPUS 88 Bela-2.3mm with Pilot Blue/Black.

Overall, there was very minimal show though with the most being from the broad, 1.1 stub, and 2.3mm nibs. The only one to bleed through was the Sharpie, which was to be expected as Sharpie pretty much goes through everything. The paper handled all of the inks well with no feathering or smearing as I wrote. Now, onto the sheen. The Pilot blue/black that I use as my control ink for all pen reviews showed red sheen! I have never, ever, ever, seen this ink show any color other than blue/black. That blew my mind, and I called a pen friend to rave about it as soon as I saw it. The notebooks retail for $7 USD which I think is a great price for the quality paper and product you receive. Ayush Paper has really set the bar high with this notepad and I can’t wait to see their future products, hopefully planners and diary/journals.
